Faith’s Law was a labor of love, and my advocacy work has been done as a volunteer. Over the years, I have gained tremendous experience from the countless hours supporting legislation and working with stakeholders in and around school abuse prevention. I recently formed Colson Consulting & Editorial LLC to better collaborate with organizations and researchers in and around education policy. My services and experience are summarized below. If you want more information, please use the Contact Me form.

Consulting Services

I specialize in education policy regarding sexual abuse/misconduct prevention in K-12 school settings. My services include supporting researchers who study this topic or organizations working on related policy or implementation. I also present on this topic and consult/collaborate on trainings or published works related to it. In addition to this subject matter expertise, I offer editing and proofreading services, which can supplement consulting work or be separate from it. Most of my work is done virtually/remotely, but travel may be considered (and is more available in summer months, when school is not in session).

Education Policy Outlook and Experience

As a policy expert, survivor, and advocate, I focus on the comprehensive policy process and the nuance of adding new law to existing law. In addition to abuse prevention policy work, I also have state-level experience with K-12 school-issued digital device concerns. In my 6+ years of advocacy experience, I have helped draft four laws across two states (Illinois and Texas), and my skill set includes the following:

  • Drafting/editing legislation
  • Listening to and liaising among stakeholders (eg, legislators, advocates, educators)
  • Anticipating implementation concerns and/or unintended consequences
  • Testifying to state committees
  • Participating in implementation at state level (ie, rulemaking process)
  • Following up on implementation at local school/district level
  • Supporting or consulting on legislative efforts in other states, including, but not limited to, Wisconsin, Ohio, Indiana, Kentucky, Kansas, Massachusetts, Maine

Experience Supporting Prevention Research

I currently serve as the Community Engagement Coordinator for a CDC-funded PCA America project and have worked behind the scenes on additional ongoing research projects. I was also the primary editor on the National Blueprint, hosted on NCSESAME’s website and co-authored with nine other national experts.

I have presented to various audiences, including educators, administrators, parents, students, and prevention advocates. I have also been interviewed by media on many occasions and had several works published. Some of these professional highlights are included below.
